Two years ago, we had drawings made for lighting improvements for several areas of the church, including the Sanctuary. We sought bids from several contractors, and we learned that the Sanctuary lighting project was going to cost more than we had available at the time. Interestingly, a two-year delay on this project may work in our favor.
Lighting technology is changing rapidly, especially in the use of LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes). The recent improvements in LED technology will help us do a more effective (and efficient) job of lighting the Sanctuary. For example, two years ago our plans did not include lighting upgrades for the area where the choir sits, because there were no LED products that would do the job. This has changed for the better. We are not only taking another look at the choir area, but we are also revisiting the entire Sanctuary, including lighting the stained glass.
Our lighting designer has been on-site twice already, and we are planning to have the new lighting drawings available for viewing in time for the April church business meeting.
